Air source heat pumps are now mainstream. MCS recorded more than 60,000 certified heat pump installations in the UK in 2025 and air source was the majority. Quick to fit, widely available, and for a like-for-like replacement, a positive change.
Our experience since 2009 tells us there is more to it than that. We look at the whole system: how heat is generated, how it reaches each room, what the roof produces, where surplus is stored, and which controls decide when any of it runs. We model the running cost, show you the carbon saved, and look after it for its lifetime.
Ground source sits at the centre of that where long-term performance matters most. Ground that holds a steadier temperature for most of the year is the best starting point available, and for ground source heat pumps we specify Ecoforest, and nothing else. Where a site cannot take an array, we specify air source from Ecoforest and Maxa, both European, both running natural R290.
Seventeen years and more than a thousand systems across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire have taught us the same thing. A home does not run well because of the heat pump. It runs well because of the four decisions behind it.

Ground, water or air, sized from a measured heat loss calculation for your building rather than its floor area. Where the site and budget allow, we lead with ground source for the highest efficiencies and lowest running cost.

Heating for the home, a pool, hot water and increasingly, cooling. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery combined to reduce energy consumption and improve air quality. Solar PV and battery so the property generates and stores its own energy rather than buying all of it.

Underfloor heating, correctly sized radiators, fan coils where a room needs cooling as well as warmth. Zoned and specified room by room, because a south-facing glazed living space and a north facing bedroom are not the same.

Controls, monitoring, solar hybridisation and smart-tariff scheduling, with remote diagnostics so performance can be monitored rather than assumed.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme funds £7,500 towards a qualifying air or ground source heat pump installation. For off-gas-grid properties currently heated by oil or LPG this has been increased to £9,000 on applications made between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027. Qualifying work carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
As an MCS-certified installer we claim it on your behalf and show it as an upfront discount: you never pay it and reclaim it. We make the application before we issue your contract so you know exactly what you will need to pay.
