The first grade 1 listed church in Devon to install solar pv and an air source heating system. A voluntary community team team worked with the Exeter Diocese over many years to secure funds and agreement to update the heating system in the church which is used as a community hub for worship, events, meetings, playgroups and even as a local honesty shop. Updating the historic radiators to run with an air source heat pump and incorporating solar to offset the running costs will futureproof the building for the community to use for many years to come.
At the design stage, it was essential to consider the impact of installing this technology in this historic building which is also sited in Dartmoor National Park. We worked with the community team to ensure the solar array was not visible at ground level and the heat pumps are installed at the rear of the property protected from site by trees and shurbs.
